Queer mom chats with queer guests about their families, but with gay...

Jaimie Kelton humorously explores the age-old question: What's it like to live as an LGBTQ family in a world built for the straights?

The mission is to normalize, elevate and celebrate, while confirming that we're just like other parents, trying not to yell at our kids when they still haven't put their shoes on and we're 25 minutes late for school.

"The Queer Family Podcast knows that sharing LGBTQ family stories is a vital way for LGBTQ folks to find community, information, and support, and for the wider world to learn about how we are both the same as and different from other families."

DANA RUDOLPH, FOUNDER AND PUBLISHER OF MOMBIAN

“As a gay mom who's been out in Hollywood for a long time, I know how much representation matters to all the queer families out there. This show gives us a chance to tell our stories with love, honesty, and humor. I started creating my family when coming out could ruin your career in show business. Things have changed a lot since then, but we've still got a long way to go. That's why shows like The Queer Family Podcast are so important. When Jaimie interviewed me about my family in 2019, I told her, "keep on telling these stories"—and she's done just that. I can’t wait to see how the new show takes our queer families’ story to the next level and a bigger audience!"

S19 EP4 l Queer Joy as Resistance: Kyle Casey Chu on Drag, Books, and Building a Better World

Kyle Casey Chu (@pandadulce) is a drag performer, author, filmmaker, and one of the founding queens of Drag Story Hour—and in this powerful Pride Extravaganza episode, Kyle joins host Jaimie Kelton to talk about the art and activism that’s helping queer youth thrive. Kyle opens up about growing up in San Francisco with his autistic twin brother, coming out in middle school, and how queer joy, drag, and storytelling became his path to healing. He shares the terrifying moment when Proud Boys stormed his reading at a public library—and how he turned that trauma into a short film now making waves on the festival circuit. And Kyle’s not stopping there: he also just released his debut middle-grade novel The Queen Bees of Tybee County, a story rooted in queer joy, chosen identity, and pageant glamor. This conversation is about imagination, healing, and finding light even in dark places. It’s a celebration of the resilience of queer families, kids, creators, and the radical power of showing up in joy. 🎙️ “We don’t have the benefit of systems being created for us. So we have to craft them by hand. And hurt.” – Kyle Casey Chu Support us and watch this episode on Patreon: Patreon.com/thequeerfamilypodcast OR subscribe directly by clicking this link: https://www.thequeerfamilypodcast.com/sponsor-us-2 Not ready to subscribe?
